Default [COMPETITION] Train2Game Christmas Competition 2010

Its that time of year again so here we go with the Christmas competiton for 2010. This year its a team event, so gather your forces and lets see which team will be crowned the winners for 2010. Please read all the information below very carefully.

    Start Date: Now!!!!
    Closing Date: 20th of December - 4pm.

    [The Challenge]
Please study the image below. It’s a post code map of the UK.
The basic idea is for the teams to create a new game based on this image.

    • Games must be developed in GameMaker only.
    • There are no restrictions on the game type or genre
    • There are no restrictions on art style or look and feel
    • The game must include multi-player in some form, either 2,3 or 4.
    • The base image must not be changed in any way.

The style and tempo of the game is entirely down to the teams. Consider a collection style game like monopoly, a territorial style game like Risk, or a more simplistic race kind of game like Ludo. The games will be assessed on ingenuity, innovation and playability.

    [Teams]
Teams submitting games need to meet this criteria, no exceptions:

    • The competition is open to Train2Game students aged 17 or over
    • All team members must be current Train2Game students.
    • Teams can include between 2 and 5 members.
    • Students can only take part in one team and are not allowed to members of multiple teams

    [The Prize!]
DR Studios will take the winning entry and covert the game for iPad for a commercial release in quarter 2 of 2011. The winning team will be credited as the originators of the title and take a share of the revenue along with a donation to the Princes Trust Charity. More details are in the Terms & Conditions at the foot of this post.

    [How to Enter]
    Entering is simple...

Gather your team together, 2 - 5 people only remember.
Send an email to cc2010@drstudios.co.uk with the following information on it:

    • Team Name (nothing politically incorrect, indecent or controversial)
    • A list of team members, student numbers and email addresses.
    • A nominated team Captain from the list of team members.

Once you have submitted this email with the above details we will send you a reply acknowledging you entrance into the competition.

    [Judging]
The competition closes on the 20th of December at 4pm. The DR Studios team will then review and assess all the entries and we will be announcing the winning team mid January.

    [Questions]
All questions and queries relating to the christmas competition should be directed to cc2010@drstudios.co.uk only. Please DO NOT private message T2G Staff via the forum, skype, email or any other method as they will not be in a position to help you.

Good luck to all those teams entering, the DR Studios crew is looking forward to playing your games and working on the winning entry on iPad !!

Sounds good, be very unique, sadly I haven't had much experience with GM so I would struggle with that but would be willing to help come up with some design ideas if needed.

I didn't see the GM only bit, YAY!

Now it means we have a fairer competition and not a games dev with loads of C++ knowledge making a crysis graphics game :S

@Gazzaballack The reason for making it a team competition is to avoid people with less experience being able to take part. If you team up with others then its still possible for you to have a go at winning the prize, you just need to let other students know your looking for a team, which, I guess I just did

@CreateNPlay The reason for limiting it to GameMaker is to stop the competition becoming a technological armageddon. We want the teams to be creative and innovative with the game play only and not be bound by technology. In terms of turning the winning entry into a iPad game, the simple games are always the best ones. Take a look at Flight Control or Geared. Hugely successful games with hardly a scrap of technology. That's really the approach we are looking for.

I assume its just the game we are needing to make, or does it involve all the documentation to go with the game (GDD,PITCH, HIGH CONCEPT ) and so on ?

    Thanks Dave, no preasure then!
