Has anyone got one of these?

I brought one today because it was so recommended.

But.... I can't get the bloody thing to work. I've spent the past 10 hours looking at various tutorials. And all I've managed to get is Audio... but no video.

Just wanted to know if anyone has had any sucess with em?

You mean the actual capture device?

    I had a DVC 70 for a while.

I returned it because it was unsuitable for my purposes. (I needed to be able to see what I was recording, be the input lag made it unworkable.)

More to the point, the entire Dazzle video range annoys me because it uses a proprietary driver that only works with their own capture software.

In other words, if you want to capture video, you're locked into the program they give you. Nothing else will work.

Are you having this problem using the supplied software? Or are you using something else?

I got DVC 170, ive got it setup so i can see on my tv what exactly im recording at the same time. But I have tried it directly to see if that effects it but it doesnt.

I can capture audio through the software fine but the video just wont appear

No worries all I've managed to solve this problem, lots of driver downloads and a bit of dumb luck lol

    Lol.

I had a tv card ages ago...

The drivers were insanely buggy. The signal could drop out, you could end up being unable to find any channels, or you could have the program crash on a regular basis.

It's amazing how bad drivers can be sometimes. - It took them 4 years, and about 20 version of the driver before there was one that worked flawlessly.

Its amazing how specialised capture cards still sell to the public...

    Why wouldn't they?

Anyone that has analog equipment and wants to create digital footage is going to use them...

It's not like the functionality is easy to replace with something else...

Well, I guess that I may be misunderstanding, but I've been doing that in various ways over the last ten years without a DVC card. Then again, I've always bought gaming hardware with some sort of VIVO on it. *shrug*

Ah, but that is sidestepping the issue.

That just means you've had hardware like this that whole period, it's just that it was integrated into your graphics hardware.

Incedentally, in looking at the ATI hardware specs, I noticed video capture is integrated into the chipset.

That doesn't mean it'll function without the physical input being built into the hardware though.

It depends on what your computer is like.

I've seen dedicated audio capture devices and thought to myself, "why would anyone buy this? - It doesn't offer anything a sound card can't already do... And I haven't seen a computer without a soundcard in more than 10 years."

Analog video capture isn't standard, but analog audio capture is.
And yet, you still see dedicated audio capture devices being sold...

    Explain that one.

Well, I did say 'to the public'. If you're a professional audio/video type person, then having specialised cards makes sense because you need the better quality input to produce your professional material - hence why they're still sold.

Another reason why they're still sold is because there is a market with the kinds of people who have to have the latest and greatest hardware as a show-piece, just to say they have it even if they'll actually never use it to its full potential.
