    Default CloudS91's Work Thread

To start this off I thought I would show you the model I'm currently working on, its only in its early stages of modelling at the moment, and there are more models to come when i get round to posting them!

This is the current state of my Buster Sword, inspired by Final Fantasy VII.

    A work in progress

There is a few ngons in your model: The blade edge needs an edge cut in and also on the hand guard from what I can see.

Yeah mid way through production atm

I have made an edge to the blade already, its only supposed to have it on one side if thats what you meant?
or did you mean i should make a new edge between the main blade and the blades edge point?

Also, I'm not familiar with the term "ngon"?

This should take care of the Ngons.Hate using a mouse to write, my apologies for the messiness. Nice sword.

cut up the butt of the handle.I forgot that one.Make sure the line is connecting to designated verts.

Ah thanks for taking the time to draw that up! and thanks for the compliment!
So i should cut an edge right across the blade? forgive me for seeming clueless, always find it difficult on the forum to understand things xD
What is the affect of doing that?
Its my first independant prop so I'm not to good at noticing errors :P sorry!
Also could you explain what you mean about the handle please?

Blue are your verts, if you look at geometry now, everything has four sides or three, never let it be five. If you draw the line by following the verts, you will be ngon free. Or 3ds Max has a modifier called Turn to poly, This guides you to your ngons.

I couldn't make out how many sides your handle (cylinder) has, and i just showed you a example of what it should look like. Sorry if it, is int the best info, but I'm like the ghost buster with Ngons.

    Hope this helps,

If its five, you will get distortion in texture, while your Models in game engines.

EDIT - don't forget to follow the line to the other side. so on the right view, there will also be a line. I rushed this a swell. my god, I need to slow down.

    Ah right I see!
So an Ngon is basically a shape that 5 sides?
so with the handle, apologies once again, but in what sense should i be cutting it up? across ways? sorry I havent really been introduced to Ngons yet in the course but I'm glad you brought me up on it as I'm sure it'll prove a useful tip once I've got it :P

    Really appreciate your explanations!

get a nice zoom picture of the handle ngon, and i cut it for you,to show you. I would cut straight threw the middle, the across, then....... how many sides, is your handle.?
Correct Ngon is a shape that's 5 sides. It will all sink in, in good time.

But this time instead of the blade, activate the handle, so i can see lines. Its two sperate objects,so just click on the handle before mug shot, i meant.
