After much ado I'm happy to finally be able to start actively looking for team members to help me out with my project : Colonisation. For anyone reading this who hasn't already seen it in another of my posts/threads Colonisation has been designed as a prequel to the original XCom games but for obvious legal reasons that currently is not the case! Over the last 4 or 5 years a team of varying strength has seen Colonisation go from strength to strength to no strength, eventually ending its development in 2006. Now I'm in the right place to give it one more shot but this time it's going to be done the right way. This time I'm not putting together a rag-tag bunch of hardcore fans, I'm putting together the A-team. I'm out to get the best I can find with the skills and passion that the next game needs to become the next great game!
I'm looking for a lot of people and so far I'm having trouble tracking many down so whatever your forte please read through this post, check the interview in my sig and look at the images in my album here. All of them will take you one step closer to understanding what this project is about and just how far a team of only 3 full time members managed to get this project. Imagine how far it could get with your help, and now send me an email to tell me when you can start...
Name:
Project:Colonisation
Overview:
Colonisation is intended as a true prequel to the old XCom series. It will feature similar gameplay aspects as the first two games (Enemy Unknown and Terror from the Deep) but will by no means be a 'clone' or remake. Certain old features will be omitted and new ones will also be added. The main features of the game will be the geoscape : a global overview including bases, cities and any deployed strikeforces and available missions etc. The battlescape : essentially a squad combat element as seen in many strategy games. And the research and development aspect of gameplay accessed via the geoscape where new weapons, vehicles and technologies can be researched and developed as the name suggests!
Initial development as a fan-base sequel began many years ago with much stopping and starting and was eventually abandoned late in 2006. The progress made during this time resulted in a crude geoscpae program and texture allowing some manipulation, a basic yet cery functional battlescape with many downloadable releases and many features included, and a great deal of written information and concept artwork. Of this host of work only the concept work will be reused but the remainder still exists for reference. This project is therefore a virtual scratchbuild but with a lot of information already available. There is currently no timeframe for this project.
Target Product:
In the short term Colonisation must be developed with no reference to the original XCom series for the aforementioned legal reasons. However contact with the franchise owner has been made in the past and hopefully communication will continue in the future. The long term goal for this project would be commercial release of this game as an official addition to the already established XCom franchise.
Compensation:
Due to the location of this request for help I am not expecting potential members to request compensating for their work, all contributing members will be credited for portfolio purposes. On completion of the project all team members who are deemed to have made a significant contribution* will be credited fully in the release and if any financial gain is achieved then said members will also be awarded financial compensation for their contribution.*
Technology:
This is a very young team and the products needed for programming and designing the artistic and audio aspects of the game are as of yet undecided. It is hoped that the team members who will be responsible for the above tasks will be able to come to an educated decision on what would be best for the project based on what is required from said software.
Regarding hardware we will be looking to present this game on desktop pcs running windows XP and newer. The possibility to port at a later date to a console would be highly beneficial and must be considered when selecting programming software.
Talent needed:
There will be increasing need for designers as the project progresses but currently this is not an urgent necessity. Potential candidates should email me if interested for future inclusion in the project.
Programmers are of vital importance to the project and must be acquired as soon as possible. In addition to standard developers I will be needing a lead developer with as extensive experience and knowledge as possible. This will allow less experienced developers to join the team and still play a large part in its development.
The art department has a massive amount of work ahead of it, much of which has already been outlined and some of which has already commenced. Both 2D and 3D artists are needed and the more the better. If you would like to join the team in this capacity please send me a copy of or link to some of your previous work.
Later in the project we will need a small team to handle everything audio but this is less than unimportant. If you wish to apply for this task in advance please don't hesitate to contact me.
Team structure:
Due to this being a major recruitment thread I do not wish to list any team members other than myself at this time. My position has always been that of lead conceptualist and project coordinator. That will continue to be the case for now but as the team grows and the project advances I will be looking for an additional coordinator to help with the running of development.
Website:
This website is brand new and in need of graphics but it does already contain what I deem to be the most important information regarding the project.

Contacts:
For forum security reasons I am not including my personal contact address here but there is a contact link from the above website which reaches the same inbox so please don't hesitate to contact me via that link!
Previous Work by Team:
This is a new team and no previous members are available to rejoin the project hence no previous titles have been completed.
Additional Info:
This project is in it's very earliest stages of development and the lack of software may seem a little off-putting but remember to check the post in my signature which will take you to an interview I did whilst leading this project almost 3 years ago and if you're still unsure look for our name in wikipedia. It needs updating but this is not a new project, it's just had a hard life and it needs a good dedicated team to help it to it's feet.
If noone joined a project because nothing had been done yet there would be no projects at all, you just need to decide if this is the right one for you. I hope it is, and look forward to your email!
Feedback:
All feedback is welcome and requested. Please use this post, my private messaging system here at T2G or my website contact link to get in touch for any reason or leave any feedback.
Thanks for taking your time to read this huge post (if you actually did!) and please respond in some way to this thread, even if just to keep it visible in the forums. I do not want to have to bump this!!!
That said I will not tolerate ANY off-topic conversation in this thread and if I feel any is occuring I will approach a moderator to remove said posts. Please just be sensible, throw in your two cents and above all get involved!
I am very excited about this project as I have been for a great many years and now I feel it finally has a chance to thrive but I can't accomplish any of this alone and I need to find the right team for this job. Don't hesitate to contact me because you think you can't do it or it won't go anywhere, just send that email, write that pm. Come and join the team!
*Members who are deemed to have made a significant contribution are those who have been a continued part of the team for the majority of the project. Simply joining when the team is having some success does not count, nor does talking a lot but contributing nothing. Members contributing small amounts such as some 3D models for furniture or several pieces of artwork will recieve a mention if their work is included in a final release but priority will be given to long-standing members.
*At this point it is impossible and illogical to discuss possible payouts as no information is available. Many factors will affect the possible rewards at the end of this project including actual profit made (if any), costs of development, number of team-members and so on. If the project reaches this point and there is any amount of profit to be shared then legal advice will be sought to ensure fair distribution of any gains made.
